The Grow Pop Up Series is about to get a Creole kick when Mrs. Odilee returns as the guest chef on Thursday 9/3 and Friday 9/4!
“As a native New Orleanian, I grew up around food,” says Odilee Kelsey, “GREAT food!”
The Crescent City is often considered a bastion of delights and styles that inspire chefs all over the world. But Odilee comes by her passion honestly.
“My immediate family all had excellent culinary skills, actually enjoyed cooking, and were eventually defined by their respective specialties,” says Odilee. “Mama was the queen of gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and stuffed crab. Daddy was the king of red beans, fried chicken, cabbage, and cornbread. Nannan’s specialties were mac ‘n’ cheese, potato salad, and stuffed bell peppers. My grandfather, “Poppee,” was a baker by trade so we were never at a loss for sweets!”
Surrounded by such excellent cooks, it was inevitable that Odilee would continue the tradition.
“Under their watchful eyes and expertise in spice mixing, my love for cooking grew and has morphed into what it is today.”
Those recipes remain a way to stay connected to family and home while making new memories.
“You don’t recognize it in the moment but, generally, our most remembered moments in life include fun, family, friends, and food… Good food! So it gives me much joy to bring smiles to faces when people taste my food, hoping that it will be a lasting part of a beautiful memory for all those who eat it!”
